In
2000 the Council established a Town Force Team to improve the appearance
of the town and provide a quick response to issues raised by residents. This
small team of highly-adaptable, multi-skilled individuals
help to keep
the town tidy, well maintained and attractive.
They work in partnership with other organisations and personnel,
including the local volunteer groups, the District Council’s contractors
an d
businesses who sponsor the council’s roundabouts.
Some filthy work, often unseen
Many of the
tasks are unpleasant and the public only see the results. Removing
rotting and dangerous refuse, often from public places, requires special
safety wear and equipment, specialist knowledge and a strong stomach!
While we demand that the District Council’s contractors do what they are
contracted to do, Town Force are on the spot to clear immediate
problems, can offer their services (for payment) to businesses and
residents, and have developed a rapport with the townspeople, bringing
much credit on the Town Council for its caring and committed attitude.

Beautifying
the town
Planting bulbs
and trees, landscaping roundabouts & other small areas, fitting hanging
baskets, painting flower basket posts and other street furniture,
cutting back foliage and mowing grassed areas all improve the general
appearance and raise the image of the town. Our constant fight against
graffiti and flyposting brings similar benefits.

Essential
help with events
The
events
programme brings visitors and business to the town and
makes life more enjoyable for most residents. Town Force offer help to
all events organisers, using their equipment, skills, local knowledge
and contacts where others could not do so.
