*PRESS RELEASE*
Volunteers Needed
Bognor Regis, April 2008:
Bognor Regis Town Council is seeking volunteers for the Sands of Time Seaside Festival event, due to take place on Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June.
This annual event, now in its 11th year, will include the usual favourites of sandcastle competition, donkey rides, classic vehicle cavalcade, exhibitions and entertainment. The theme for the 2008 event is ‘Pirates & Smugglers’. For would-be pirates, a fancy dress parade will be held on Saturday 31 May.
A Council spokesperson said “With so much going on over the weekend, we need additional people to assist our small events team. The duties of the volunteers will include: assisting children’s activities (including fancy dress parade); running sideshows and stalls; manning the Information Point; and assisting with general stewarding of the event.”
Volunteers should be over 18 and able to offer a few hours of their time over the weekend. A training session will be run for all volunteers, to explain their duties and to brief them on the activities and entertainments taking place.
Anybody interested in helping with this event should contact Sue Holmes, Events Officer for Bognor Regis Town Council on 01243 825535. *ENDS* *PRESS RELEASE* ‘AWARDS FOR ALL’ MONEY FOR SANDS OF TIME Bognor Regis, 8 May 2007: BOGNOR REGIS TOWN COUNCIL has successfully bid for ‘Awards for All’ funding for the 2007 Sands of Time Event. An additional £3,500 will be added to the budget set by the Town Council to make this year’s event even bigger. This will house a number of activities and workshops for children, with a whole range of arts & crafts, mosaics and pottery painting on offer. A Junk Modelling competition, based on the theme of this year’s event ‘Creatures of the Deep’ is being run through the local Infant and Junior Schools. There will be a junk modelling table in the marquee for additional entries and all finished models will be on display. Judging will take place at 2 pm on Sunday afternoon. The marquee will also house a number of exhibitions, including one by local historians Sylvia Endacott and Shirley Lewis. There will also be a ‘Fossil Walk and Talk’ given by David Bone. There will be entertainment on both days at the bandstand and by the Pier; a Charity Fair on the Saturday and a Craft Fair on Sunday; donkey rides; sandcastle competition; Classic Car Cavalcade; open top bus rides and a selection of giant games such as ludo and twister. The theatre will be showing the enchanting tale of the ‘Rainbow Fish’ on Sunday afternoon.
